The O’Neill y Pastrana Family

The genealogy of Alfonso O’Neill y Manuel shows that both his parents were born on the Island of Tortola, but he was born in Puerto Rico. The island of Tortola is well known in history for being favored by pirates and raiders. And not far from the Island of St. Croix were once the O'Neill's of the Fews lived. In the 1640’s Spain began to lose their power, ownership of the Islands shifted back and forth between different countries nations. Tortola in the 17th century was successfully taken over by the English from the Dutch, and established a permanent plantation colony on Tortola and the surrounding islands. There are records of O'Neill's, or O'Neale's on the island of Tortola described to have been mariners, but they are from the middle of the 1800's, and may not be related to this O’Neill family. One of these men was named Jacob Marsden O'Neale a bachelor in his 30's (July 23, 1865), and alsoa Leopold O'Neale a bachelor in his 40's also described has a mariner (Feb 09, 1862) father was a Don Josephus O'Neale also a mariner by profession. Alfonso O’Neill y Manuel married Maria Pastrana they became the parents of Ricardo O’Neill y Pastrana b. 1886, Alfonso O’Neill y Pastrana b. 1888, Alfred O’Neill y Pastrana b. 1889, Emilia O’Neill y Pastrana b. 1894, Isabel O’Neill y Pastrana b. 1895, Eugenio O’Neill y Pastrana b. 1898, and Eduardo O’Neill y Pastrana b. 1903.
