The O'Neill's of the Fews and the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico

The O'Neill's of the Fews and the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico , share many things in common, one of them being the island of Puerto Rico, were many of the O'Neill's of the Fews were born in the 1800's ,and served in the military of Puerto Rico. On the island ,there must be a few descendants of the O'Neill's of the Fews, yet to be found in various areas of Puerto Rico, due to the son's of Don Arturo O'Neill O'Keffe, 2nd Marquez del Norte, who remained on the island and few records have been found, due to the lack of interest, by many of the current O'Neill's in Puerto Rico. One line is established to have a different origin than those of the Fews. These O'Neill's are the descendants of Don Juan O'Neill , whose oral history is totaly different of that of the O'Neill's of the Fews, but more in line with the O'Neill's of Tyrone.

Based on the marriage record of Don Patricio O'Neill Garcia, dated 1778, we do know that these O'Neill's were in Puerto Rico , long before any of the O'Neill's of the Fews, also Don Arturo O'Neill O'Keffe, 2nd Marquez del Norte , was born on St.Croix in 1783, and Don Juan's grandson , Don Jose O'Neill was married the same year that Don Arturo, was married in the year 1802. I researched into Lt.General Felix O'Neill of Creegan , who was born circa 1720's, as the possible father of Don Juan O'Neill, but dates and oral history do not match, Don Felix O'Neill of Creegan , did have a son named Juan O'Neill Valera, who later became a Captain General, but he was born in 1765,and matched to the marriage date of Don Patricio O'Neill Garcia ,shows that Don Juan O'Neill Valera, could have been only 13 years old.

Another name I have looked into is Captain General Felix O'Neill's of the Fews, who was married twice, and did have two sons named Juan and Jose O'Neill Ranisol. But there is no mention of Don Felix O'Neill of the Fews in the Caribbean, although it's very likely he was, but no records of him in military service in the Spanish Netherlands, to my knowledge.

Oral history states that the progenitor of our line was a tall man of blue eyes and dark hair. He arrived in Puerto Rico with his brother both military men from Ireland of Irish ancestry . There are said to have fought in the land were people wore Wooden Shoes and there were windmills ( The Spanish Netherlands, modern day Belgium ) . He was said to have been involved in Piracy and had a violent temper . In our family most males are between the height of 6 ft 4 inches and 5 feet 11 inches ( 193.04 centimeters to 180.34 centimeters )and weight around 230 lbs to 260 lbs. (average of 113 kilograms) . Often of a muscular built with broad shoulders and strong arms. Usually hair turn completely white around the ages of 30 and 40 years. Most males are of dark hair but a few have been nicknamed "Cano" a word to describe some of blond hair. This O'Neill's true oral history show they lived in Spain before migrating to the Spanish Netherlands around the 1600's.
Family oral history states that our origins are from a man named Edmundo , Eamon or a Enrique Rua O'Neill who fought in the Spanish Netherlands . Also men involved in piracy with men named Rocco ( Richard or Ricard) , Gill ( Guillermo) , Juan ( Sean, John) and the head of the clan was a man named Conn or Constantino. This family was ruled by eight heads and all lived in one area were they would all meet after long campaigns or raiding. There are also accounts of a woman named Rose involved in the family or mother of my ancestor.

These men had great knowledge of the sea and the Caribbean. It's believed Patricio O'Neill Garcia had a brother possibly named Jose O'Neill Garcia who left Puerto Rico never to return possibly migrated to one of the neighboring islands or back to Spain or Spanish Netherlands. There is second story that is found among other O’Neill’s of Puerto Rico, is that of the daughter of a O’Neill, had two or three male children with a Indian or African salve and when the father found out he took back his daughter to Ireland or Spain. The two children took their mother’s surname and so did their descendants.

I have researched for the name Edmond O'Neill , but found only records of a Edmond, who died fighting against his cousin Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone. This Edmond was the son of Shane 'Diomas' O'Neill, son of The First Earl , Con Bacagh (The Lame) O'Neill, who died in 1588. Some accounts have Edmund O'Neill (McShane) being hung by his cousin Earl Hugh O'Neill in 1602. Family oral history states that he died in a battle. In search of the name Rose or Rosa I found.

Rose the name of the sister of Edmond who married into the McDonnell clan.

There are various Rose or Rosa O'Neill's and countless Henry's and Conn's among all the clans that could have .

Rose O'Neill of the Fews married a man named Phillip O'Reilly of Co. Cavan.

Rose O'Neill of the Fews 1672-1757 married a Maurice O'More of Co. Mayo.
Rose O'Neill daughter of Sir Henry O'Neill of Shane's Castle of the Clanaboy. She married The Earl of Antrim Randall McDonnell circa the 1600's.
Rose O'Donnell who married Art Oge O'Neill . She was the daughter of Don Manus O'Donnell , Lord of Tyrconnell.
Rose O'Neill , daughter of Teige O'Neill and Mary O'Donnell. She married a MacCallum of Scotland.
Rose McGuiness who married Shane O'Neill , last of the lord of the Clanaboy of Shane's Castle.
Rosa O'Neill 1582- d. Nov 1st 1660 married Owen (Eugenio) Roe O'Neill parents of Henry (Enrique ) Roe O'Neill. She was the sister of Cahir O'Doherty was once married to Cathbar O'Donnell brother of the Earl of Tyrconnell. She lived in Louvain and in 1651 settled in Flanders and lived in Brussels. Currently buried in the Franciscan College of St. Anthony of Padua in Lovain.

There is a distant Rose associated with Henrietta O'Neill daughter of Sarah O'Neill and Henry O'Neill. Henrietta O'Neill married Colonel John Comerford and were parents of a Jose Comerford y O'Neill. But time line of birth dates does not match nor the Y-DNA of the Comerfords.

The Aodh Athlaman and the O'Neill Core Theory.

Why was Aodh Athlaman d. 1033 stated to be the last of his race? this leads to a theory of a " O'Neill core group" of a selected male lineage of the Royal O'Neill's and the House of Tyrone. If Aodh was the the last of his race? Was he not of the Ui Neill, or not of the native Ulster population? Let's say Aodh was the last of his race this would mean that his bloodline was reduced to a selected gene pool, where generations later the descendants of Aodh Athlaman, would have a Hapotype, unique only among a few selected O'Neill's males. Then the only way for the O'Neill Royal clan to survived was to absorb others into the clan to remain in power. Only way the "O'Neill Core Theory" can be proven is by finding a unique Haplotype shared by the O'Neill's and MacLaughlin's their closest kindred.

From the Gleanings of Ulster History , Seamus O Ceallaigh 1952

" For six generations in sequence the family depends upon a single individual to maintain the succession; no brothers or uncles are mentioned ,and the L.E. expressly states that Aodh was the last of his race. Now it was altogether exceptional for these ruling families to be reduced in the reginal succession of single heirs. "

" Following the ordinary law in the community, there must have been as many daughters as sons. If this achievement provokes any sense of mystery, I leave the probing of it to the student of genetics or those curious about the trend of social proprieties , but obviously this factor was turned into a source of strength in war and administration."

"It's is conceivable that O'Neill lineage may have been spun out to a single filament in 1160, but the matter in which the facts are represented to us is not convincing."

L.E. (Lebor Eoganach)

There are various SNP's that define the O'Neill's currently tested R1b1b2a1b5, the majority of the O'Neill's tested are R1b1b2a1b, R1b1b2a1b5b, I2b1a ,and the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico R1b1b2a1a4. It's not known to what extent the Danes, Norse, and Normans influnced the O'Neill's of Tyrone, and this could be the reason why we have various SNP's among the O'Neill's tested. There could be also been MacNeill's and McEvies who were gallowglass who adopted the surname O'Neill in Ulster , yet there is the adoption of John Geoghegan of Castle Bunowen in Co. Galway , that in 1807 adopted the surname O'Neill and his descendants from then on are known as O'Neill's . There are plenty of O'Neill's who are Geoghegan's at the moment ,and do not realize this fact. Again, Let's look at various clans who are not of the house of Tyrone , but do have the O'Neill surname in current modern times due to various reasons.

The Neylon's of Co. Clare of the Niallain sept, the Neilan surname can easily be changed to O'Neill or O'Neil with the droping of the ' an' suffix at the end of the surname. Then we have the Nihill's of Co.Clare origins of the O'Neighill sept located in the Barony of Bunratty of Thomond. These clans or septs are not of the O'Neill's of Ulster , or of the O'Neill Royal House of Tyrone.

If we eliminated and totaly ignore that Niall Glundubh was born in Norway circa 850 a.d., and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle that describe Niall, as the brother of Sigtrygg Caech of the Ui Imar. Then it's very likely that Niall Glundubh MacAedo was of the SNP R1b1b2a1b5b and of the Ui Neill clan. This would explain the small amount of currently tested O'Neill's who are R1b1b2a1b5b, since Aodh Athlaman was stated to be the "last of his race" in the Lebor Eoganach. The question is about the R1b1b2a1b2 O'Neill's! Who are these men? my theory is that they are originally men of the Airghialla and Oriel kingdoms , that were reducec to subkingdoms under the Cenel Eoghain during the 7th and 8th centuries.

The O'Neill's Y-DNA

The O'Neill's Y-DNA

Only over 200 , or so O'Neill's have currently been tested their y-dna, and this is only a small amount compared to the vast O'Neill's through the world. Perfect example are the O'Neill's in the Caribbean, France, Portugal, Spain ,and South America. What we do know is that from the current O'Neill's tested (200 O'Neill's ) the majority belong to the SNP R1b1b2a1b , and the ones who have not tested for their SNP are R1b1b2 , and very likely they will be R1b12a1b once tested. It's speculated that they all seem to share a common ancestor possibly around 950 a.d. , who was this common ancestor? It's not known , but what is interesting is that they do match the surname Sterling and Williams, very well. A theory is that this group of O'Neill's were part of a tribe absorbed into the Cenel Eoghain, during the reign of the Domnhall of Armagh or better known as Domnhall Ard Macha Ua Neill ,or they were absorbed into the Cenel Eoghain in earlier times.

The O'Neill's y-DNA brake down to several different Haplogroups.

1. R1b1b2a1b5b O'Neill's the MRCA Niall of the Nine Hostages ,and founder of the Ui Neill dynasty, not of the O'Neill's surname.

2. I1b1a O'Neill's the MRCA is unknown , but this SNP is found in Spain and Sardinia.

3. R1b1b2a1b5 O'Neill's the MRCA is unknown. What is known is that this SNP is found in Finland, Norway ,and Sweden.

4. R1b1b2a1b O'Neill's the MRCA is unknown, yet this is the SNP found in the majority of O'Neill's currently tested out of 200 +.

5. R1b1b2a1a4 O'Neill's of Puerto Rico, the MRCA is Don Constantino O'Neill of Spain of the late 1600's . These O'Neill's haplotype is unique ,and has a strong connection to a group of similar haplotypes in Yorkshire, England, the Shetland islands , and Sweden, but no matches in any database the closest matches is estimated around 800 to 900 a.d.

There are 5 distinct SNP's and various septs, but only two of the SNP's , the progenitor or MRCA is known, and many of these O'Neill septs do not have a modal y-dna haplotype or a SNP. These various O'Neill's to my knowledge do not have a modal Haplotype,or have anyone that as aquired a y-dna tested. The O'Neill's of the Magh da Chonn, The O'Neill's of Thomond, The Clannabuidhe O'Neill's, The O'Neill's of Cor, The O'Neill's of Feevag, The O'Neill's of Ivowen, The Johnston Baronets of New York, and the O'Neill's of Fews (Spain). Of these septs none of their MRCA's y-dna is known.

The O'Neill's of the Fews MRCA or progenitor is Aodh of the Fews d.1475 , one of his descendants Sir Henry O'Neill of the Fews (Don Enrique O'Neill of the Fews) is the progenitor of the O'Neill's of the Fews in Asturias and Sevilla , Spain. No one of their respected sept as come forward to acquire a y-dna test ,and we do not know their SNP or Haplotype.

The Clannabuidhe O'Neill's progenitor is Aodh Buidhe SNP unknown .

The O'Neill's of Tyrone progenitor Niall Glundubh MacAedo d. 919 SNP unknown .

The O'Neill's of the Fews and Clannabuidhe both are of the House of Tyrone ,and it is assumed that they both share a common ancestor in Aodh 'The lazy Youth' O'Neill 1176 -1177. Also, the Maclochlainn and O'Neill's is assumed to share a common ancestor in Domnhall Ard Macha Ua Neill 956 - 980 the grandson of Naill Glundubh MacAedo.

Amlaib Conung

Amlaib Conung is a interesting Viking lord that is described by the Fragmentary Annals of Ireland to have been the son of Gofraid believed to have been the king of Norway or possibly the Hebrides and sorrounding areas . Amlaib Conung was the older brother Ivar both are said to have aided King MaelSechlainn and in another account Aedh Finnlaith in raids against Meath in 862 and other territories in Ireland. What is not told by many is that Amlaib conung was married to the daughter of Aedh Finnlaith as described in the Fragmentary Annals of Ireland.

In 849 A.D. in the sixth year of the reign of Mael Sechlainn is when Amlaib Conung is mentioned when he appears with a proclamation of tributes and taxex from his father. The annals of the four masters have that in 861 A.D. Amlaib Conung , Ivar and Auisle and Lorcan, son of Cathal , Lord of Meath plunder the land of Flann , son of Conang. In the year 862 Amlaib Conung is written to have been the son in law of Aedh Finnlaith. It's written that both combined a great army of Irish and Norse and they killed many freemen in the plain of Mide. In 869 the Annals in Ireland describe Amlaib Conung plundering from West to East , and from North to South all over Ireland.

What is a interesting account is that the sons of Amlaib Conung are not known , but what is known is that he was the son in law of Aedh Finnlaith. Only male decendants were his brothers especially Ivar who was the founder of the House of Ivar, for many years ruled in Yorkshire and Dublin. His younger brother Auisle was said to have been killed by Amlaib Conung over jealousy due to Amlaib Conung's wife the daughter of Cinaed, which Cinaed is this is up to debate by scholars the two main Cinaed's are Cinaed MacAlpin , the King of the Picts and the other is Cinaed MacConaing, King of Brega.

These three Viking lords are said to be of a Swedish origin associated with the Ynglings who established themselves in Denmark for a period of time. Auisle the youngest brother of Ivar and Amlaib Conung did leave a son who was killed in 833 by Muirgel , the daughter of Mael Sechlainn MacMaele Ruanaid and Ottar, the son of Jarnkne. No known reason why this occured is given.

What ever happened to the sons of Amlaib Conung and the daughter of Aedh Finnlaith? I estimate possibly born circa 860's. Did these sons remain among the Ui Neill of the North? or did they remain among their Viking kindred? Finding a distinct haplotype of various families in the areas and territories were these Viking lords will be a lead to finding the possible origins and descendants of these men. The current belief is that the male line no longer exist.

Yorkshire DYS YCA II b 21

Yorkshire DYS YCA II b 21

Recently among a certain group of families with origins in Yorshire , England . There all have the value of 21 at Marker DYS YCA II b with most with the value of 16 at DYS 456. Very different from the usual value of 13 at DYS 456 of the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico. It's difficult to find what group of peoples does the value of 21 at YCA II b might define. But since it's is found among a group of various families in Yorshire this could give some insight of it's origins.

The Celts, Saxons , Danes or Norse?

Region of Yorshire was once occupied by the Brigantes a Celt tribal name found in Northern Spain, Austria, York and South East Ireland. Modern day Austria was once the home land of the tribe called the Brigantii on the lake of Constance once called the Brigantinus Lacus. Their capital was Brigantium Raetiae modern day Bregenz. In Northern Spain we have Brigantia and Brigantium Hispaniae in La Coruna , Spain. In South east Ireland there is the ancient region of Bregia and described by Ptolemy in his map as a region occupied by the Brigantes. Then we have the Brigantes of North Riding Yorkshire and West Riding Yorkshire. The Brigantes in England controlled more territory than any other Celtic tribe. Ancient Yorkshire was known as Isurium Brigantium.

Currently no y-dna evidence has been found to support that the Marker DYS YCA II b 21 defines the Brigantes. No y-dna L48 + group of people have been found in Northern Spain with the value of 21 @ YCA II b . There has been two different tested people one form Switzerland but it's not known if his origins are from the area near the Lake Constance and another has been tested and his origins are from Bukovina a are that was once part of Galicia of Eastern Europe . Still there is no evidence to support that this marker DYS YCA II b 21 defines any Brigantes Celts since all these areas were once occupied by the Goths and other Germanic tribes.

It's very likely this marker may define the Danes or Norse of Yorkshire who in 866 invaded and captured Yorkshire led by Ivar the Boneless . There could be many possible origins for this group in Yorkshire the Ynglings etc. It's very likely this DYS YCA II b with value of 21 may end up showing the origins of the Danes or Norse of Yorshire.

L48/S162 O'Neill's of Puerto Rico

Origins of the SNP L48 is not clear known. What is know is that is associated with a Germanic origin. The age of L48 is speculated to be around 2,900 - 3,100 years old. This bloodline of the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico is defined by unique values at certain markers .

DYS 390 = 23 , DYS 439 = 11 , DYS 389-2 = 29, DYS 447 = 24 , DYS 449 = 28 , DYS YCA II b = 21, DYS 456 = 13, DYS 459 = 19, DYS 537 = 11 , DYS 534 = 17

L48 is associated with a Germanic origin but it's not known if it represents a East Germanic tribal origin, These were the tribes who immigrated from Scandinavia into the area between the Oder and Vistula rivers between 600 - 300 b.c. later futher south . Among these tribes where said to be the Goths a hetrogenous East Germanic Tribe who later reached what was known as Scythian on the coast of the Black Sea and in later centuries conquered Northern Spain.

If one believes the Irish myths and legends of the a aristrocratic Scythian tribe named the Milesians whose origins are said to be in Scythia , the island of Gothinia (Gotland), and Northern Galicia . One would believe this to be evidence. But facts are not based on myths and legends like some out there who still believe these Irish legends has fact when it seems that the Irish scribes used the Historia de Regibus Gothorum , Vandalorum et Suevorum has a blue print for their Milesian genealogies and legends.

There are two theories one is a NPE (Non Paternal Event) involving the Dubh Lochlannaigh, the black Scandinavians or the Finn Lochlannaigh, the fair strangers. For the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico L48 / S162 SNP. This event would have occured around 850 - 1000 a.d. this is where the y-dna most recent common ancestor (MRCA) and matches stop. The nearest matches are 4 people one from the Shetland islands , another from northern Finland , and Norway and the last in Ulster. What is different among the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico and other O'Neill's is their past history of sea piracy and military exploits and their fondness for settlement on islands.

One account that is intersting is that in the Anglo Saxon Chronicles that describe

914 Neil king was slain by Sihtric his brother
921. Here sihtric king slew Neil his brother.

Only Neil King Sigtrygg Caech, also known as Sihtric killed was Niall Glundubh MacAedo at the battle of Kilmashoge near Dublin in 917 or 919.

A interesting figure in all this is Amlaib Conung, King of the Lochlainn, said in the Fragmentary Annals to have been a son in law of Aed Finnlaith MacNeill, the father of Niall Glundubh MacAedo. Others belive that Amlaib Conung wife was the daughter of Cinaed MacAlpin, also known as Kenneth MacAlpin. Niall Glundubh MacAedo's mother was written to be Mael Muire the daughter of Kenneth MacAlpin.

During the period after the death of Niall Glundubh MacAedo is when the Irish under Muirchertach ' of the leather cloaks ' MacNeill son of Niall Glundubh MacAedo they begin to build naval fleets like the Danes and start to attack into the Hebrides. Aed Finnlaith " The fair warrior" is one of the first Irish chiefs to seek alliances with the Norse during his military exploits.

Currently a group of MacLochlainn's in Ireland have been tested and are L48/ S162 SNP positive they are current members of the MacLaughlinn Surname dna project. This is very interesting and can futher shed light into the SNP L48 in Ireland.

The last of our kind?

There is one bloodline of the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico that is of the SNP L48 / R1b1b2a1a4. These are the descendants of Don Juan O'Neill who arrived in Puerto Rico in the early 1700's. The Haplotype is well established with unique values at markers DYS YCA II b and DYS 456 .

Currently there are none of the O'Neill's tested within the SNP L48/ R1b1b2a1a4 out of less than 200 tested in the O'Neill DNA project. But there are MacLochlainn's in their respected dna project who are of the SNP L48 / R1b1b2a1a4 this is a very interesting find since the MacLochlainns of Ulster are the closest kindred to the O'Neill's but it's not known of the origins of these MacLochlainn's at the moment . It's will very unlikely that the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico will not find any y-dna matches among the O'Neill's in Ireland, Australia , and the United States. The odds are very slim but among the O'Neill's in Spain, Portugal , the Caribbean and the Netherlands the odds of having a match improves. The mayority of the O'Neill's currently tested fall into 4 groups of SNP's the I2b1a, R1b1b1b2a1b5b who are less common unlike the SNP / Haplogroup R1b1b2a1b and R1b1b2 but it must be noted many of these tested have not had their SNP tested.

Very unlikely they will be many O'Neill's in Australia , United States and Ireland of the SNP L48 and of the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico unique haplotype if there is a match this will be a one in a million match since not even other surnames match this bloodline in any database.

So it's looks like this bloodline is the last of it's kind among the O'Neill's and other surnames.

Ancient O'Neill Remains Y-DNA testing.

Testing O'Neill Y-dna remains

It is well known that y-dna testing on ancient remains is done by various companies for sometime now. Recently the remains of King Tut and his family were obtained, the Y-dna of Christopher Colombus has been in the process for sometime now and countless other famous remains and not so famous. But i have seen certain people accuse that testing the ancient remains of the O'Neill's is outlandish and could not be done. This is untruthfull and ignorant when it is well known this can be done. I believe if the y-dna of King Tut can be obtained so can the y-dna of many of the O'Neill's form the 1000 to 1600's.

One may ask why this hasn't been done?

You have Trinity College in Ireland, the recently formed Association of O'Neill Clans who also administer the O'Neill Y-DNA project can tackle this issue. But no one outside myself has proposed this. What can be found in those remains can shed a big light on the O'Neill clan history and put alot of theories to rest and start new ones.

What is the fear?

I see that the biggest fear is the truth that maybe the O'Neill's of Tyrone are not what was expected them to be or many believed them to be. I believe is time that the O'Neill remains be tested either by the a Independent group and all the O'Neill's will find the truth. For those who truely desire to know the truth.

Constantino O'Neill? And Don Juan O'Neill.

Who was Don Constatino O'Neill mentioned in the O'Neill's de Puerto Rico oral history? Who ever Constantino O'Neill was he must have been born around the 1620 or 1640's and must have been in Spain or just changed his name in his new homeland of Spain . If he would have been from Ireland his name would have been called Conn. There seem to be many Conn O'Neill's but not many lived in the Spanish Netherlands nor in Spain , this eliminates all other Conn O'Neill's.

There was Constantino O'Neill who had a son named Felix O'Neill later became a Colonel in the Spanish Netherlands who served under Owen Roe O'Neill.

Conn O'Neill the 3rd son of Art O'Neill , father of two sons Daniel and Brian O'Neill , who was the father of Conn O'Neill who died in Spain.

Conn O'Neill , the 3rd son of Owen Roe O'Neill , father of Colonel Owen O'Neill and Lewis O'Neill both served in France.

There seem to be the connection of Don Bernardo O'Neill and Constantino O'Neill both associted with Owen Roe O'Neill.

Conn O'Neill, who died in 1601 , son of Hugh O'Neill , 2nd Earl of Tyrone, his grandson Feardorcha O'Neill left Ireland with don Hugh O'Neill into continental Europe . (Possibly Brussels)

Conn na Creige , son of Hugh O'Neill, 2nd Earl of Tyrone, who died in the tower of London in 1622 . Whose descendants nothing is known.

Conn McNeill McFachartaigh O'Neill, who was married to Owen Roe O'Neill's sister from whom he had a nephew named Brian O'Neill born circa 1612 , he served many years under the Prince of Orange army. He was married to a Catherine , the eldest daughter of Thomas, 2nd Baron of Wotton. He has a son named Harry O'Neill from a previous marriage but notthing is known of him or his descendats.

In 1697 there was Captain Constantino O'Neill , who served in the regiment of Clancarthy.

The progenitor of one of the O'Neill of Puerto Rico family is Don Juan O'Neill. Who is this Don Juan O'Neill ? and what was his connection with this Don Constatino O'Neill and the Spanish Netherlands?

Who were these men named Rocco , Guillermo and Edmundo O'Neill?

There is clue who these men could have been and a connection Don Arturo O'Neill de Tyrone O'Keffe, 2nd Marques del Norte , had his son Don Gonzalo O'Neill y Chabert born in Rio Piedras March 31, 1830 baptized by cadet Don Carlos Eugenio O'Neill from the regiments in Grenada. Very unlikely Don Arturo O'Neill de Tyrone O'Keffe would have his son baptized by a cadet unless he was from a distinct bloodline.

The island of Grenada was occupied by the French, and history well states that Dillon's regiment were contributors in the conquest of the islands of Grenada, St. Eustacia, Tobago and St.Christopher.

Y-DNA

My Y-dna is of the Haplogroup R1b1b2a1a4 also known has the SNP L48 / S162 among this Haplogroup i currently have no genetic matches the closest one are to far apart to be of any significance. Also my Haplotype has very uncommon markers not found within the SNP L48 that is believed to be around 3,900 years old origins are yet to be known.

Why is the Haplotype is so uncommon?

This could be due to not many male descendants from the original progenitor or a selected group of people not currently tested.

Among the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico there will those who would match me and those who would not but outside of Puerto Rico the percentages go down among other O'Neill's it's very unlikely that any O'Neill within Australia, Ireland and the United States ( Those not from Puerto Rico) will match me genetically. Currently no O'Neill who has tested their y-dna in Ireland, Australia or the United States has matched. This is due to various factors one of them being the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico origins start in Ireland with the immigration of the O'Neill's into Belgium once the Spanish Netherlands in the 1600's. Not later on in the 1800's to the Americas or Australia during the potato famine in Ireland.

It's very unlikely anyother O'Neill will match or be of the SNP L48 but there could be a posibility since there seems to be a big neglect among many of the O'Neill's to have their SNP tested.

The 1st known O'Neill to arrive in Puerto Rico was Don Juan O'Neill during the early 1700's he married Anna Garcia. Eight generations later i aquire a y-dna test and was the 1st to do among all the O'Neill's of Puerto Rico and any other O'Neill in Spain or Portugal.

Until others O'Neill males from Puerto Rico, Spain , Belgium , France and the Caribbean aquire a y-dna test then we will be able to know who is related to who and our true origins not just genealogy since what is in our dna does not lie.

What does the this y-dna prove?

It proves that the if O'Neill's de Puerto Rico are descedants of the Feardorcha ' Matthew' O'Neill bloodline. Then the question could be finaly answered . If Feardorcha was the illegitamate son of Conn ' Baccah ' O'Neill ?

and if he was then this would include all of his descendants of Irish history. Men like Owen Roe, Hugh Dubh , Hugh O'Neill , 2nd Earl of Tyrone and all his descendants.

Also , this may prove based on the ancient myths and Irish genealogies of the O'Neill's being of a Scythian/ Goth origin, not the so called Celtic origins. But this is often overlooked by many who believe in the ancient myths when it's convenient for them.

Based on the mutations this Haplotyope within the SNP L48 looks to be very old.
